Florida medical license lookup and API

Florida physician licenses are issued by separate boards for Medicine and for Osteopathic Medicine, and published by the Florida Department of Health's Division of Medical Quality Assurance (MQA). Florida offers both an interactive lookup and a bulk data download. If you verify licenses in Florida plus other states, the challenge is format and upkeep, not finding the data.

How to look up a Florida medical license (official sources)

  • Interactive lookup: the MQA License Verification search lets you search by board, profession, name or license number: mqa-internet.doh.state.fl.us/MQASearchServices/HealthCareProviders.
  • Bulk download: the MQA Licensure Data Download offers all or selected professions, filtered to "All Statuses" or "Currently Licensed," as pipe-delimited compressed text files. The MQA user guide states that "data files are updated daily." The search page itself directs anyone wanting a complete list of licensed providers to the data portal: flhealthsource.gov/data-portal.
  • API: no public Florida license-verification API was found as of October 2026.

What this means if you verify licenses in many states

Florida's machine-readable path is a bulk file. You download it, parse it, and compare it against yesterday's file to spot changes. Other states use different models: open-data feeds, weekly database files, or APIs that require an account. Each comes in its own format and on its own schedule. A multi-state program ends up maintaining a separate pipeline for every source, and Florida alone has separate boards for MD and DO licenses.

Florida license status through Licensy

  • One format: Florida results come back in the same normalized schema as the other 50 states + DC.
  • Daily monitoring: webhooks fire on status changes, you get 60-day expiry warnings, and license history is kept.
  • Two ways in: a REST API for your backend and an MCP server for AI agents.
  • Coverage: physicians (MD and DO). Other professions are not covered.
